Policy Committee vacancies now open
We’ve got three vacancies this year and we’re keen to hear from members across all sectors of the profession. Members are selected for their skills and experience in policy development, evidence gathering and research, decision making, and problem solving.

Policy Committee (PC) plays a key role in the development of ÂÜÀòÊÓÆµ policy across a wide range of animal health and welfare, public health, and veterinary professional issues, reporting to ÂÜÀòÊÓÆµ Council. PC works closely with ÂÜÀòÊÓÆµ Officers and the ÂÜÀòÊÓÆµ team to:
- develop policy positions on priority issues, working in partnership with relevant species divisions and by convening task and finish working groups
- horizon scan for the hot topics of interest to the profession
- recommend and approve our policy, lobbying and campaigning priorities for each Association year
- advise on our responses to consultations from Government, the devolved administrations and other key stakeholders
Policy Committee activityÌý
PC is currently:
- closely following the Competition and Markets Authority investigation of veterinary services for household pets and advising on our response.
- working with the relevant divisions to produce joint positions on identified priority animal welfare problems, including cages for laying hens and farrowing crates for pigs.
- advising on the progress of three working groups, one on animals in performance sport, one on anthelmintics in grazing animals, and one on the UK veterinary agreement with the EU.
PC has recently:
- developed our position on gene-editing of animals
- developed our position on diet and nutrition for cats and dogs
- developed our positions on canine breeding services, and Brucella canis
- updated our position on breeding for health and temperament in the context of breed specific legislation and extreme breeding for aggression
Policy Committee members
PC is currently chaired by Alice Moore, and is composed of:
- Eight members (including at least one recent graduate) appointed by the Nominations and Awards Group
- Chair of the Ethics and Welfare Advisory Panel
- Three members appointed by our Branches in the devolved nations
- ÂÜÀòÊÓÆµ Officers
